The Winery

Anthony keeps the craft of winemaking simple: Going back in winemaking is the way forward, which translates into a belief in the basic, traditional methods of winemaking, aided by modern equipment and design, including sorting tables, basket presses, wooden fermenters and small tanks for individual vinification of particular cultivars. The result is a portfolio of wines that falls deftly mid-way between New World fruit richness and showiness, and Old World tannic structure and elegance. Read more »

Elandsjacht – The Fynbos Experiment

An area that is covered with fynbos, now almost wholly recovered from a devastating fire in 2004, this is Elandsjacht, the retreat that Anthony Smook and his family escape to after a busy week. It is here that his passion for wine and the outdoors meet in perfect symmetry. In an area that is rich in farming and natural resources it seems right that this small vineyard should look down on the bustling communities below whilst gently producing a wine that will reflect the heritage of the area. Irresistibly Italian

In 2006 Anthony, together with 2 partners, purchased a small wine farm in Italy south of Tuscany in the province of Viterbo. The families teamed op for what would become, a very exciting adventure. The town of Montefiascone where the wine is made is situated on the highest point of a volcanic ridge that surrounds the lake of Bolsena. This picturesque medieval town is visible from the plateau of Viterbo from a very great distance and it is thought the Etruscans build on this site their most sacred shrine. Read more »
